China's Masterbatch: From Followers to Peers
time:2025-05-19 click:Masterbatch, as a major colorant in plastic products, is widely used in the plastic processing industry. Taking advantage of the 8th National Plastic Coloring and Masterbatch Academic Conference, the reporter interviewed Professor Wu Lifeng, Secretary General of the Masterbatch Professional Committee of the China Dyestuff Industry Association. According to him, my country's masterbatch industry began in the 1970s. After decades of development, it has formed an annual output of more than 100,000 tons. The production equipment has basically been domestically produced, and some have reached the world's first-class level.
Although the level of my country's masterbatch industry is not much different from that of the world, the problem of lack of industry standards is becoming increasingly prominent. Wu Lifeng pointed out that the lack of unified standards has led to a lack of authoritative reference system in market transactions, quality disputes and other links. Especially after China joined the WTO, this problem has seriously restricted the industry's international competitiveness. Formulating industry standards has become a top priority.

Wu Lifeng admitted that the current industry has problems such as small enterprise scale, serious product homogeneity, and vicious price competition. He predicted that in the future, masterbatches will develop in the direction of multifunctionality and high pigment content, especially in the field of chemical fiber masterbatches, which has great potential and needs to meet five major technical requirements such as fineness, dispersibility, and compatibility. High-end application areas such as home appliances will also become new growth points.
Facing the challenges brought by joining the WTO, Wu Lifeng believes that this will accelerate the survival of the fittest in the industry. Enterprises with backward technology and poor management will be eliminated, while enterprises with scale and technological advantages will grow and develop. He emphasized that the establishment of large enterprise groups and the implementation of modern management are the only way to cope with global competition, and sustainable development can only be achieved through strong alliances.
